At 700 kg, 4,000 mm long and 1,500 mm wide, the A12 is a compact, light machine. Its two-cylinder engine turns at 3,000 rpm, and its design top speed is only 15 km/h. This low top speed points to a pure work machine for yard and field rather than a vehicle intended for road transport.
Air-cooled two-cylinder petrol engines of around 550 cm3 were common on light carrier vehicles of this kind, since they stayed low-maintenance without a water cooling circuit while providing enough power for yard work, small trailers and mounted implements. With a top speed of 15 km/h, the A12 stays clearly below any driving licence class for open road traffic and was confined to the yard and to field tracks.
On a used A12, the cylinder cooling fins deserve attention, as air-cooled engines overheat quickly once the fins are dirty or damaged. Carburettor, spark plugs and the condition of the drive belts or chains belong on the basic check, along with the axle bearings on such a light vehicle. Parts for such rare small vehicles are usually only found through specialist collectors.
