Irus, a manufacturer based in Burladingen on the Swabian Jura, built a range of single-axle mini-tractors under the U designation, widespread in the post-war period for tilling small plots and in direct-marketing operations. The types U 600, U900, U 1200/K and U 1402 recorded in the register differ mainly in the engine offered, which depending on the version ran on diesel or petrol, or the corresponding mixture-fuelled drive.

On a used Irus U-range implement, the condition of the single-cylinder engine including the carburettor or injection system, wear on the clutch and drive belt, and the function of the steering handles all count; parts for these early single-axle implements are practically only available through collectors and specialist secondhand-parts exchanges.
