International Farmall 100 series – successor to the Letter Series from 1954: four-cylinders, 16.4 to 33.5 kW, petrol, LPG and first diesel version
The 100 series replaced International Harvester's previous Letter Series (A, B, C, H, M) from 1954. The type numbers from 100 to 450 order the models by ascending size class; the register here holds the 200, 300, 400 and 400 Diesel types. With the 400 Diesel, International Harvester brought its first diesel-engined tractor to market in 1955 as an alternative to the previous petrol and LPG engines.

The register lists here four versions with 16.4 to 33.5 kW from four-cylinder engines of 2,011 to 4,324 cm3 displacement. Unladen weight ranges from 1,433 to 3,078 kg, overall length from 3,124 to 3,585 mm, width from 2,108 to 2,305 mm and height from 1,899 to 2,007 mm. Torque ranges from 216 to 553 Nm at a rated speed of 1,450 to 1,750 rpm. Fuels available side by side are petrol, petrol with LPG operation, and diesel.
The 100 series shaped the North American market for mid-power field tractors in the 1950s and competed directly with John Deere, Allis-Chalmers and Ford, while the adjustable rear-axle track allowed use across row crops of differing widths.
On these now decades-old American tractors, what counts is rust on the frame and sheet metal, the condition of the clutch and gearbox, on the petrol and LPG engines the ignition and carburettor or gas system, on the diesel model the injection pump and injectors, and generally the tightness of the hydraulics and the function of the adjustable rear axle. Spare parts are supplied by vintage-tractor dealers in North America and Europe who specialise in Farmalls.
