The water-cooled four-cylinder engine of 4,649 cc ran at roughly 1,000 to 1,025 rpm and produced 20.3 hp (14.9 kW). It was designed to run on kerosene or petrol, as was typical of tractors of that era before the diesel engine took over in agriculture. At an unladen weight of 1,819 kilograms and a design top speed of 7 km/h, the machine was a pure field-work implement, not intended for road use.
The low engine speed and large displacement at comparatively modest power are typical of engines from this early period, designed for durability and simple maintenance rather than high specific output. Kerosene operation required a small petrol tank for cold starting and warm-up before switching to the main fuel.
When buying a 10-20 that is now nearly a hundred years old, the condition of the crankshaft, bearing shells and cylinder bores comes first, along with the tightness and condition of the radiator. Wooden-spoke wheels or their later replacement rims, the condition of the belt pulley and the completeness of the carburettor with its kerosene/petrol changeover deserve particular attention on this model.
