Alongside four-wheel implement carriers, Holder of Metzingen also built single-axle walking tractors for domestic and small gardens as well as narrow crops. The NHT and Pionier are light walking tractors with two-stroke engines, guided by an operator and combined with various implements for tillage and transport. Such operator-guided walking tractors rounded out many post-war manufacturers' ranges below their four-wheel implement carriers, covering jobs for which a ride-on tractor was too large.

The register lists 2 versions here with single-cylinder engines of 300 to 400 cm³, an unladen weight of 350 kg, lengths of 2,000 to 2,200 mm, widths of 490 to 600 mm and heights of 850 to 950 mm at a rated speed of 2,200 to 2,500 rpm; the two-stroke engines run on a fuel-oil mix at a ratio of 1:20 to 1:25.
As operator-guided walking tractors, the NHT and Pionier were aimed at small and hobby gardeners as well as tight row crops where a four-wheel tractor would have been too unwieldy, rounding out the Holder range at the lower end. Both models could be combined with a tiller, cutter bar or trailer, covering a wide range of tasks in small gardens and specialty crops.
When buying one of these two-stroke machines, attention should go to the correct fuel-oil mix ratio, the condition of the clutch and drive belt, the tightness of the fuel tank, and the function of the implement mount, as well as the condition of the handles and control levers, which see heavy use on operator-guided walking tractors; spare parts are now only available in limited supply through specialist dealers.
