Trailers of this class are common in trades, landscaping and among private users for carrying building materials, machinery or equipment; at gross weights up to 3.5 t they can be towed on an ordinary category B car licence. The span from 2 to 3.5 t covers both lighter single-axle and heavier tandem-axle trailers, used for small machinery or bulky loads. When buying a used Höötmann trailer, what counts is the condition of the overrun brake, axle and wheel bearings, corrosion on the chassis and load floor, and the condition of the side panels and ramps. Lighting, the number-plate holder and the match between the chassis number and the papers also belong in the inspection; spare parts run through trailer workshops.
