Herold – O2-class trailer with a gross weight of 3,500 kg, 2,470 kg payload, four wheels and a width of 2.55 m, built in 2005.
With a gross weight of 3,500 kg, the Herold trailer falls into EU trailer class O2, the light trailers from 750 to 3,500 kg that can be towed on a car driving licence. Trailers of this class carry general cargo, machinery or vehicles in private and commercial use alike.

With an unladen weight of 1,030 kg, payload comes to 2,470 kg, more than twice its own weight. At 2.55 m wide, with four wheels on two axles, the trailer sits on a compact chassis. The two axles sit close together at around 0.80 m, an axle spacing within the tandem group rather than the trailer's overall wheelbase.
Class O2 trailers are usually fitted with an overrun brake. A category B driving licence allows towing such trailers up to a gross weight of 3,500 kg as a combination, depending on the exact combination also with code B96 or category BE. The tight tandem axle spacing improves manoeuvrability and supports a low load height, useful when driving onto ramps or into garages.
When buying a used unit, check the tandem axle group: the load balance between the two axles must stay free to move, otherwise tyres and brakes wear unevenly. Check the overrun brake mechanism for wear, check the frame for corrosion around the axle mounts, listen to the bearings on both axles for play, and check the floor boards for rot.
