Hako M29-2: narrow carrier vehicle for municipal services with a 2,970 cc four-cylinder engine, 6,000 kg gross vehicle weight and a 40 km/h top speed

The M29-2 belongs to the narrow carrier vehicles built for street cleaning, winter service and grounds maintenance: vehicles that have to work between kerbs, on cycle paths and in pedestrian zones where a normal-width truck cannot go.

The M29-2 is powered by a four-cylinder engine of 2,970 cc. At a gross vehicle weight of 6,000 kg and an unladen weight of 2,877 kg, around 3,123 kg remain for body and payload. At 1,340 mm wide, 3,980 mm long and with a 2,200 mm wheelbase, the vehicle is noticeably narrower and shorter than a road truck, and its top speed is 40 km/h.
At 6,000 kg the M29-2 sits in class N2, which covers trucks between 3.5 and 12 tonnes, but its narrow width and low speed mean it is used as a pure municipal work vehicle rather than for general road traffic. The narrow track lets it use paths that are closed to normal trucks.
For a used example, the condition of the hydraulics matters most: municipal vehicles carry changing attachments such as sweeping brushes, snow ploughs or gritting bodies, so pumps, hoses and quick couplers wear accordingly. Rust on the frame and body is a constant issue because of road salt used in winter service, and it is worth checking operating hours rather than mileage, since the vehicle mostly works at walking pace.
