Grumman LLV – right-hand-drive US mail delivery vehicle in EU class N1 with a gross weight of 1,890 kg, a 65 kW four-cylinder engine and an aluminium body
The Grumman LLV (Long Life Vehicle) was for decades the most widely used delivery vehicle of the US Postal Service: a right-hand-drive, light commercial aluminium body on a front-engined chassis, designed for delivering mail straight from the driver's seat to a kerbside mailbox.

The register lists a four-cylinder engine with 2,470 cm³ displacement and 65 kW output for the LLV, paired with a three-speed GM TH180 automatic gearbox. Against an unladen weight of 1,420 kg stands a gross weight of 1,890 kg, giving a payload of around 470 kg. The vehicle is 4,458 mm long and 1,910 mm wide.
With a gross weight of 1,890 kg, the LLV falls into EU vehicle class N1, the category of light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. The right-hand-drive body is a direct result of its purpose: delivering to mailboxes on the right-hand side of the road without switching sides, with short distances between individual stops. At 65 kW, the four-cylinder engine is modest, but sufficient for a vehicle built around low speeds and constant stopping rather than sustained cruising.
Buying a used LLV means checking the aluminium body, which does not rust but can show dents and fatigue cracks, and the automatic gearbox after the stop-and-go work typical of these vehicles, with thousands of starts a day. The brakes and suspension should also be checked closely given the high number of load cycles, and the sliding side door should be tested for smooth operation after years of constant use.
