Eicher was a Bavarian tractor manufacturer that stood apart from most other German makers of the time with its own air-cooled diesel engines, while competitors mostly relied on water cooling. The 3708 from the 3700 series belonged to the brand's smaller to medium field tractors.

The 3708 is powered by an air-cooled two-cylinder diesel engine of 1,963 cc, cooled by a radial fan, producing 30 hp, or 22.1 kW, at 2,000 rpm. At a weight of 1,600 kg, a length of 2,770 mm, a height of 1,220 mm and a width of 920 mm, with a wheelbase of 1,840 mm, the machine reaches a top speed of 24.6 km/h.
Air cooling via a radial fan made the engine resistant to frost and did away with a radiator, coolant and water pump as potential weak points, but required a clean, freely running fan so the engine would not overheat. A two-cylinder engine of this power class was built for tillage with lighter implements, mowing work, and running a power take-off at standard speed.
When buying such an old Eicher tractor secondhand, the condition of the cooling fan and the cooling fins on the cylinder block matters most, since dirt there leads directly to overheating. Also worth checking are the clutch and gearbox for wear, the diesel engine's injection pump, and the frame and axles for rust; spare parts for Eicher tractors of this series are still comparatively well available through specialist suppliers.
