The Frank SAKL1 belongs to EU trailer class O4, covering trailers and semi-trailers above 10,000 kg gross vehicle weight, for which compressed-air brakes are required. Vehicles in this class run in long-distance haulage behind suitably approved towing vehicles or lorries.

At a gross weight of 25,000 kg and a kerb weight of 7,050 kg, the trailer carries a payload of about 17,950 kg. At 13,780 mm long, 2,500 mm wide and with an 8,450 mm wheelbase, it is built for long loads whose weight considerably exceeds the kerb weight of the body.

This combination of great length and high payload suits goods that need both space and load capacity, such as long structural components, pipes or prefabricated parts with substantial weight of their own. The compressed-air brake has to act reliably along the full length of the trailer, which requires a sound brake line reaching all the way to the rearmost axle.

When buying used, the chassis, because of its length, needs particular checking for distortion and corrosion at the cross members. The air lines should be checked for leaks along their full length, as should the wheel bearings and the drawbar coupling gear. Tyres and lighting round off the inspection. The towing eye at the drawbar is also worth checking, since it transfers the full pulling force between the trailer and the towing vehicle.
