Ford/Versatile 800 series: articulated 4WD tractors from Winnipeg with Cummins six-cylinder engines (LT10/LTA10), models 846 and 876, 171 to 209 kW / 230 to 280 hp, around 1987
The 800 series traces back to Versatile Manufacturing of Winnipeg, Manitoba, which had built articulated four-wheel-drive tractors of its own design since the 1960s. In 1987 Ford acquired the Canadian company and initially sold the current lines under the dual Ford-Versatile name, before the brand became Ford New Holland Versatile after the 1991 merger of Ford and New Holland. The models listed here, the 846 and 876, carry six-cylinder diesel engines from Cummins' L10 family: the naturally aspirated LT10-A230 in the 846 and the turbocharged LTA10-A280 in the 876.

As large articulated tractors, the 800 series targeted arable farms on North America's Great Plains, where pulling power for wide cultivators and drills was in demand, putting it in direct competition with Steiger's and Case-IH's own models as well as John Deere's 8020 series.
When buying used, particular attention should go to the articulation joint with its bearings and steering cylinders, the tightness of the Cummins six-cylinder engines including the turbocharger on the 876, the condition of the differentials on both axles, and the cab and hydraulic pumps; engine and drivetrain parts are available through the Cummins and Versatile successor networks.
