The four-cylinder diesel engine has a displacement of 1,995cc, and top speed is given as 159km/h. With a gross vehicle weight of 3,500kg and an unladen weight of 2,651kg, a payload of 849kg remains. A length of 7,800mm, on a wheelbase of 4,520mm and a width of 2,430mm, corresponds to the long Transit version, fitted with six wheels instead of the usual four.
Six wheels instead of four mean twin tyres on the rear axle, used with long and heavy bodies for greater stability and a more even load distribution. The vehicle falls under EU category N1 and can be driven on a category B licence as long as 3,500kg is not exceeded.
When buying used, the usual Transit chassis points apply – timing chain, brakes, corrosion on the floor pan – and with twin tyres, the even wear and tyre pressure of both tyres on each side also matter, since a defective tyre is easily overlooked with a twin-tyre setup. Spare parts for the chassis are readily available, while parts for the special body are available only to a limited extent. The wheel bolts and nuts of the twin-tyre setup should also be checked regularly for a secure fit.
