The 70 series represents Ford New Holland's large six-cylinder class from the period after the Basildon plant was renamed Ford New Holland; the four types 8670, 8770, 8870 and 8970 form, in ascending power, the upper end of this generation. Unlike the registers of the pure Ford era, this series carries no separate four-wheel-drive designation, although large tractors of this class were usually delivered with four-wheel drive.
