Trailers of this weight class run as a second unit behind silo tractor units hauling grain, feed, cement or plastic granulate, doubling the transport volume compared with a solo silo vehicle; compressor-driven pneumatic discharge is standard on these designs. For certain chemicals the vessels are additionally designed to ADR regulations and carry the corresponding markings and safety valves.
On used silo and tanker trailers, the tightness of flaps, manhole covers and discharge lines, the condition of compressor and aeration system, corrosion on the vessel, and the frame, axles and brakes all count; inspections mostly run through specialist silo-vehicle workshops. It is also worth checking the currency of the ADR approval documentation if the trailer was used to carry hazardous goods.
