A four-cylinder diesel engine of this size was, in the late 1950s, the standard drive for mid-power tractors, suited to tillage, trailer work and driving mounted implements through the power take-off. An output of 29 kW places the 411 R in a class that was sufficient for most tasks on an average farm of the period, without being built for particularly heavy drawbar work.
When buying such an old Fiat tractor secondhand, the condition of the diesel engine's injection pump and injectors, visible corrosion on sheet-metal and frame parts, and the state of the clutch and gearbox matter most. Also worth checking are the brakes and, if fitted, the hydraulic system for mounted implements; spare parts for such an old model are usually only obtainable through specialist tractor-restoration workshops.
