Fendt builds its tractors in Marktoberdorf in the Bavarian Allgäu and has been part of the American AGCO group since 1997. With the 1000 Vario range, the brand introduced its most powerful standard tractors to date, carrying the stepless Vario transmission, which Fendt brought into series production in the 1990s, up into the top power class. The 1050 Vario, also known internally as FWA 530.23, was built in 2016.

The Fendt 1050 Vario carries a water-cooled six-cylinder diesel engine with 12,419 cm³ of displacement, producing 517 hp, or 380 kW, at 1,700 rpm, with 1,900 Nm of torque; it runs on diesel or RME (rapeseed methyl ester). At 14,000 kg, 6,157 mm long, 3,570 mm high, 2,750 mm wide and with a 3,300 mm wheelbase, the machine reaches a top speed of 40 km/h.
At 380 kW, the 1050 Vario ranks among the most powerful wheeled tractors in the standard segment and is built for large-scale arable farming, where high pulling power is needed for tillage with wide cultivators and ploughs and for heavy towed loads. The stepless transmission keeps the six-cylinder engine within its economical speed range regardless of travel speed, without the driver having to shift gears. The 40 km/h design top speed falls under German driving licence class T.
When buying such a powerful Vario tractor used, the condition of the stepless transmission matters above all, as repairing it is more involved and costlier than a conventional gearbox; a test drive across the whole speed and load range is essential. Also worth checking are cooling performance under full load, the tightness of the many hydraulic connections for implements, and the condition of the axles and final drives given the machine's weight.
