Fahr was a German manufacturer of tractors and combine harvesters based in Gottmadingen on Lake Constance that merged with Deutz in 1968 to form Deutz-Fahr. The GT 130 belongs to the GT range and was built between 1955 and 1957, during the West German economic-miracle decade in which farming increasingly demanded more powerful tractors.

The air-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine of 1,305cc produces 55 hp at 2,000 rpm. At 1,530 kg, 3,825 mm long, 1,665 mm high and 1,636 mm wide, the GT 130 was a comparatively powerful tractor for its time; the wheelbase is 2,350 mm and the top speed 19.6 km/h.
With 55 hp from four cylinders, the GT 130 clearly exceeded the output of the simple two-cylinder standard tractors still common at the time, and it was aimed at farms with a greater need for ploughing and cultivating work over larger areas. The air-cooled design made the engine insensitive to frost, without a cooling-water system to maintain.
When buying one of these tractors second-hand, the condition of the air-cooled cylinder heads and cooling fins for cracks matters, along with the sheet-metal bonnet and mudguards for through-rusting, which is common on tractors of this age. Parts for Fahr engines today come mainly through Deutz-Fahr vintage clubs and specialist dealers, since Fahr has not existed as an independent brand since the merger.
