Eicher, founded in 1936 by Josef Eicher in Forchheim, Lower Bavaria, was one of the major German farm tractor makers of the post-war period. The range known as Phase III comprises the three versions 3105, Eicher 3085 and Eicher 3085 A, whose four-digit type number distinguishes the models within the 3000 range and tends to rise with engine output.

The register lists 3 versions here with 62.2 to 77 kW rated output (up to 105 hp at the top) from four- to six-cylinder diesel engines of 3,927 to 5,890 cc displacement. Kerb weight ranges from 3,875 to 4,780 kg, length from 4,120 to 4,440 mm, width from 1,980 to 2,310 mm and height from 2,590 to 2,720 mm. Maximum torque ranges from 278 to 345 Nm at rated speeds of 2,100 to 2,300 rpm.
With the Phase III range, Eicher positioned itself in the mid-to-upper power segment of West German farm tractors, competing there with makers such as Fendt, Deutz and Massey Ferguson. The multi-cylinder engines and increased weight reflect the general trend towards more powerful tractors designed for heavier tillage and larger mounted implements in this class.
When buying a used Eicher from the Phase III range, check the condition of the injection pump and turbocharger where fitted, wear on the clutch, gearbox and rear-axle seals, and corrosion on the frame, mudguards and cab. Spare parts for Eicher tractors of this generation are supplied by specialist vintage-tractor dealers; there has been no continuous factory support since independent Eicher production ceased.
