As a follow-up concept to the Mammut, Eicher, the Bavarian tractor manufacturer, introduced the Mammut 2 range with four cylinders instead of three. The EA 600 was built in 1969. The second Mammut generation remained just as suited to primary tillage on larger areas as its predecessor.

The Eicher EA 600 carries a four-cylinder diesel engine with 3,927 cm³ of displacement, producing 60 hp, or 43.9 kW, and developing 251 Nm of torque. At 2,980 kg, 3,400 mm long, 1,700 mm high, 1,890 mm wide and with a 2,204 mm wheelbase, the machine reaches a top speed of 19.1 km/h.
With four cylinders at the same displacement as the air-cooled four-cylinder engine of the HR range, the EA 600 runs more smoothly than the three-cylinder engine of the original Mammut and delivers more power at 43.9 kW. Its 251 Nm of torque provides strong pulling power for draft work with a plough and cultivator. At 2,980 kg and 1,890 mm wide, the machine still remained more manageable than the heaviest air-cooled six-cylinder engines of the period.
When buying such an old four-cylinder engine used, the condition of the crankshaft bearings and head gasket matters, as repairs after decades can be involved. Also worth checking are the injection pump, the condition of the clutch given the comparatively high torque of 251 Nm, and corrosion damage to the frame and sheet-metal parts, which are the norm on tractors of this age.
