Deutz is a company from Cologne and one of the best-known makers of air-cooled diesel engines in tractor building. The D 2505 was built from 1965 to 1967 and was marketed under the 05 designation, which Deutz used at the time for its generation of air-cooled standard tractors.

The air-cooled two-cylinder diesel engine has a displacement of 1,700 cc and produces 16.1 kW (22 hp) at 2,100 rpm. The D 2505 is 3,245 mm long, 1,535 mm wide and 1,480 mm high, with a wheelbase of 1,865 mm and a weight of 1,550 kg. Its top speed is 25 km/h.
Air cooling was Deutz's hallmark: instead of a radiator, water pump and coolant, a belt-driven fan provides the airflow across the cooling fins of the engine block. At just over 16 kW, the D 2505 sat in the small power class of standard tractors of its time, built for smaller and medium-sized farms doing ploughing, cultivating and PTO work.
When buying a used air-cooled Deutz diesel, check above all the condition of the fan belt and cooling fins, since either can cause overheating if worn or clogged. Beyond that, check the injection pump and nozzles, the clutch and gearbox synchromesh, the PTO clutch, and rust on the bonnet and wings.
