David Brown 990 Implematic (1961-1965) from Meltham, Yorkshire: water-cooled four-cylinder diesel of 3,044 cc, 52.7 hp/38.8 kW at 2,200 rpm, Implematic hydraulic implement control, 2,164 kg
David Brown was a British tractor manufacturer based in Meltham, near Huddersfield in Yorkshire. The 990 Implematic series was built from September 1961 to October 1965. The Implematic name refers to the maker's hydraulic implement control system, which used the three-point linkage to regulate the depth and draft of mounted implements such as a plough or cultivator.

The water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine has a displacement of 3,044 cc and produces 52.7 hp (38.8 kW) at 2,200 rpm, with 191 Nm of torque. The 990 Implematic is 2,997 mm long, 1,626 mm wide and 1,422 mm high, with a wheelbase of 1,948 mm and a weight of 2,164 kg. Its top speed is 22 km/h.
A hydraulic implement control system such as Implematic allowed the working depth of a mounted implement to be adjusted continuously according to soil resistance, rather than relying solely on a fixed setting of the three-point hydraulics. At almost 39 kW and three litres of displacement, the 990 sat in the mid-size class of tractors typical of the early 1960s, built for ploughing, cultivating and PTO work on medium-sized farms.
When buying a used example, check the hydraulic system particularly carefully, including the pump, valve block and seals of the Implematic control, since wear here leads to imprecise depth regulation. Beyond that, check the radiator and water pump, clutch and gearbox synchromesh, PTO clutch, and rust on wings and floor panels. Spare parts are supplied by specialist dealers in classic David Brown tractors.
