David Brown built the Cropmaster between 1947 and 1953 at the Meltham works near Huddersfield in England; the register lists here the 25 C/D and 30 C/D types. The Cropmaster was one of the first British post-war tractors with an enclosed bonnet and streamlined bodywork and was offered with both petrol-paraffin and diesel engines, making it a flexible choice for farms during the post-war transition period.

The register lists here 2 versions with 27.9 to 30.6 kW from four-cylinder engines of 2,523 to 2,707 cm³ displacement, weights from 1,473 to 1,743 kg, lengths from 2,870 to 2,931 mm, widths from 1,492 to 1,619 mm, heights from 1,372 to 1,403 mm and rated speeds from 1,800 to 2,300 rpm.
With its modern design and fuel flexibility, the Cropmaster shaped British post-war farm machinery and competed with Ferguson and the Fordson tractors; David Brown also exported the type widely, including to Australia and other Commonwealth countries.
Buying one of these classic post-war tractors used, the condition and tightness of the engine matter, and on the multi-fuel versions particularly the condition of the carburettor and vaporiser, along with rust on the enclosed bonnet and bodywork. Spare parts are available through specialist vintage-tractor dealers and clubs for historic David Brown machines.
