Trailers of this class are the workhorse of trade businesses, landscapers, municipalities and small forwarders: light enough to tow behind a van or pick-up, sturdy enough for building materials, machinery or vehicles. At the upper end of the span, at 6 tonnes gross weight, use already shifts towards compact machinery and vehicle transport.

On a used example, rust on the chassis, drawbar and mounts, the condition of the overrun brake and linings, axle bearings and leaf springs, the drawbar eye and the electrics with its plug all count. On the larger versions, also check the ramps, lashing points and the load-bed capacity; spare parts for axles, brakes and lighting come from the usual trailer suppliers.
