Co-op tractors were built from the 1930s for the National Farm Machinery Cooperative, an alliance of American purchasing cooperatives that offered members affordable farm machinery under their own brand name. Production sat at various plants over time, and from the 1940s mainly with the Canadian manufacturer Cockshutt in Brantford, Ontario: the E3 and E5 models correspond technically to the Cockshutt 30 and 40 types. Farmer's Union Co-op No. 1 to No. 3 are parallel designations for cooperatives such as the Farmers' Union, under which the same tractors were sold regionally.

The register lists here 11 versions with 14 to 39 kW (19 to 52 hp) from four- to six-cylinder engines by various American engine makers – Chrysler, Buda, Waukesha, Continental and Hercules – widely used as industrial and tractor engines from the 1930s to the 1950s.

Co-op tractors represent the cooperative movement in US agriculture, which sourced machinery outside the big brand dealer networks, and the close technical kinship with Cockshutt and sister brands such as Gamble-Farmcrest and CO-OP Implements in Canada.

On these rare tractors, what counts is the condition of the particular third-party engine and parts availability for it, the condition of clutch, gearbox and electrics, and rust on the bodywork; since the basis is often Cockshutt, some wearing parts can be sourced through Cockshutt and Oliver collectors.
