The Steyr 4065 Kompakt S carries a water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine with 3,400 cm³ of displacement, producing 65 hp, or 48 kW. Power is sent through a gearbox with 12 forward and 12 reverse ratios; at 3,000 kg, the machine reaches a top speed of 40 km/h, and the hydraulics lift up to 2,500 kg.
At 48 kW and 3,000 kg, the 4065 Kompakt S belongs to the lower power class of standard tractors and suits smaller and medium farms, grassland work, and haulage and yard tasks where a large, heavy tractor would be oversized. Its twelve gears in each direction allow fine speed matching when manoeuvring and working with implements despite the compact build.
When buying used, the condition of the clutch and shift mechanism of the twelve-speed gearbox matters, as it is mechanically more complex than a simple four-speed gearbox. Also worth checking are the tightness of the rear hydraulic connections, the condition of the tyres and brakes, and corrosion damage to the frame and mudguards, which arise on compact all-purpose tractors through frequent yard use.
