The Steyr 9100 M carries a water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine with 4,397 cm³ of displacement, producing 97 hp, or 71 kW, at 2,300 rpm, and able to run on both diesel and rapeseed-oil diesel. At 3,950 kg, 4,215 mm long, 2,690 mm high, 2,170 mm wide and with a 2,481 mm wheelbase, the machine reaches a top speed of 30 km/h.
The ability to run on rapeseed-oil diesel alongside ordinary diesel was, for tractors of this period, a concession to farmers who wanted to use their own plant oil as fuel, particularly in Austria and southern Germany. At just under 4,000 kg and with moderate engine output, the 9100 M is a classic all-purpose tractor for field work, haulage and front-loader operation on medium-sized farms.
When buying a rapeseed-oil-capable tractor used, the condition of the injection system and fuel filter matters, since plant oil places different demands on seals and filtration than pure diesel. Also worth checking are the tightness of the hydraulic connections for front and rear implements and corrosion damage to the frame and mudguards, which is common on machines of this age.
