With their rubber-track undercarriage, the Challenger E models achieved a large ground-contact area at low ground pressure, giving them an advantage over wheeled standard tractors for heavy tillage on large arable land. They targeted large operations with high draft-force needs for cultivators, ploughs and large seeding equipment.

When buying used, these crawler tractors call for checking the condition and tension of the rubber tracks, the bogie wheels and drive sprockets, and the engine and injection system of the Caterpillar unit above all. The hydraulic system and PTO clutch should be checked for leaks and wear; undercarriage spare parts are specialised and run through dealers focused on crawler tractors.
