At a length of 7,300 mm and a width of just 2,200 mm – narrower than the 2,550 mm usual for road vehicles – it weighs 2,180 kg unladen and carries 3,620 kg of payload, just under two-thirds of its gross weight. The very long wheelbase of 5,400 mm against an overall length of 7,300 mm shows two widely spaced axles, which allow a long, low load floor between the wheels.
From 3.5 tonnes gross weight, an air-brake system is required; the simple overrun brake of the lighter O1 and O2 classes is no longer sufficient. A track narrower than 2.55 m is common on trailers built for narrow roads, such as field and forest tracks or tight farmyard entrances. Towing it requires a category BE or C1E licence.
On a used example, what counts is rust on the frame and side members, especially around the mounts of the widely spaced axles, the condition of the brake drums and linkage, play in the axle bearings, the state of the sides and load floor, and the tightness and condition of the lighting system. On a vehicle of this age, it is also worth checking for earlier chassis damage caused by overloading, and whether axles or brake components have been replaced with parts from a different supplier over the decades.
