Bührer, a Swiss tractor maker based in Hinwil in the canton of Zurich, built field tractors for the country's farms from the 1930s into the late 1970s, competing with brands such as Hürlimann and Meili. The MFD 4/10 was built from 1955 to 1961 and, with around 2,500 units produced, is the most-built model of the marque in this register.

The MFD 4/10 carries, in block construction, a water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine that sends 40 hp to the rear wheels through a mechanical gearbox. With an unladen weight of 1,700 kg, it reaches a top speed of 30 km/h, the highest among the Bührer models in this register.
At 30 km/h the MFD 4/10 falls within driving licence category L up to 40 km/h. The high production figure of around 2,500 units points to a tractor that, in the mid-1950s to early 1960s, served as a versatile all-rounder for field work and road transport on smaller to medium Swiss farms, in a period of growing mechanisation when many farms bought their first own tractor.
When buying second-hand, the operating hours and the condition of the injection pump, wear on the clutch and mechanical gearbox, and rust on the chassis and the sheet-metal parts of the block construction matter. Because the MFD 4/10 was built comparatively often, the supply of spare parts is the best among the historic Bührer models, though some parts now have to be custom-made.
