Bührer, a Swiss tractor maker based in Hinwil in the canton of Zurich, built field tractors for the country's farms from the 1930s into the late 1970s, competing with brands such as Hürlimann and Meili. About 50 examples of the 445P in the 4 range were built in 1977, one of the later and smaller-volume models of the marque.

The 445P carries a water-cooled three-cylinder diesel engine of 2,502 cm³ displacement producing 45 hp, and a 10/2 gearbox with ten forward and two reverse gears. With an unladen weight of 1,920 kg, it reaches a top speed of 25 km/h – a ratio of engine size to weight typical of the mid class among Bührer's ranges.
At 25 km/h the 445P falls within driving licence category L up to 40 km/h. A three-cylinder of this displacement belonged in the 1970s to the upper mid class of field tractors for tillage and transport on smaller to medium Swiss farms; the multi-step ten-speed gearbox allowed finer matching of travel speed to draft work and road transport rather than relying on engine speed alone.
When buying such a rare model second-hand, the operating hours and the condition of the injection pump, wear on the clutch and ten-speed gearbox, and rust on the chassis and sheet-metal parts matter most. Because only around 50 examples were built, spare parts are practically only obtainable through specialist collectors of historic Swiss tractors, and patience is often needed before a matching part turns up.
