Bucher Guyer P 2100: Swiss compact tractor from 1954, four-cylinder petrol engine with 19.1 kW (26 hp), 1,176 kg unladen weight
Bucher Guyer, a Swiss agricultural-machinery maker based in Niederweningen in the canton of Zurich, built small tractors for Swiss farms alongside its farm equipment, in a market where Hürlimann and Meili also competed for the smaller holdings. The P 2100 dates from 1954 and is thus a forerunner of the B range, with which it shares its body dimensions.

The P 2100 carries a water-cooled four-cylinder petrol engine of 2,052 cm³ displacement, producing 19.1 kW (26 hp) at 1,900 rpm – a noticeably smoother-running engine than the smaller single-cylinder models of the time. With an unladen weight of 1,176 kg, a wheelbase of 1,650 mm, a length of 2,510 mm, a width of 1,520 mm and a height of 1,400 mm, it reaches a top speed of 20 km/h.
At 20 km/h the P 2100 falls within today's driving licence category L up to 40 km/h. In Swiss agriculture of the 1950s, four-cylinder tractors of this size increasingly replaced the earlier one- and two-cylinder models for field and yard work on smaller holdings; water cooling also allowed steadier full-load running than the air-cooled designs of those years.
When buying such an old carburettor tractor second-hand, the ignition system and carburettor, the condition of the radiator and water pump, and rust on the sheet-metal parts and chassis matter most. Because few examples of this early model survive, the completeness of its equipment usually decides the scope of restoration, and parts turn up mostly through collectors of historic Swiss tractors.
