Bsu Oplegger – class O4 semi-trailer: 22,000 kg gross weight, 12,700 kg unladen weight, 12.60 m length, 105 km/h maximum speed, model year 2011
This trailer carries the Dutch type designation “oplegger” in the register instead of a brand name – the local term for a semi-trailer that does not rest on its own front axles but on the towing vehicle's fifth wheel via a kingpin, which carries the front part of its weight. It was built in 2011.

At a length of 12.60 m and a width of 2,550 mm, the semi-trailer weighs 12,700 kg unladen and can carry 9,300 kg of payload, a good 42 per cent of its 22,000 kg gross weight. The 8,020 mm axle spacing on four wheels places the rear axles well behind the kingpin, which improves cornering stability under full load. It is approved for 105 km/h, slightly above the usual 100 km/h limit for trailers.
With a gross weight of 22,000 kg, the semi-trailer falls into EU class O4, above the 10-tonne threshold from which an air-brake system is required instead of the simple overrun brake of classes O1 and O2. Towing it requires a category CE licence, and the tractor unit must be approved for the corresponding semi-trailer load.
On a used example, what counts is the condition of the fifth-wheel coupling plate and kingpin, play in the axle bearings and air suspension, the state of the brake discs or drums, and the tightness of the air lines and coupling heads. The frame and side members should be checked for distortion and cracked welds, along with the wheel chocks, lighting and even tyre wear.
