Trailers of this size serve a very mixed field: small single-axle trailers for garden and building work at the lower end, braked tandem boat trailers and roller systems for launching sailing and motor boats in the middle, and tilting special carriers for quads or military-style off-road vehicles at the top. Buyers here usually choose by specific use rather than by range.

When buying a used boat trailer, check the condition and free movement of the rollers or skids, corrosion on the frame and axles from saltwater contact, the function of the winch, and the seal on the lighting after launching; on tilting vehicle carriers, also check the condition of the tilt mechanism, locking and ramps. On all types, the tow eye, jockey wheel and overrun brake belong to the basic check.
