Bonfiglioli is an Italian manufacturer of gearmotors and drive technology headquartered in Bologna. The BX range denotes the company's three-phase standard motors, tested and registered under the Australian energy-efficiency register MEPS. In the type designation, for example BX 132MA 4 or BX 160L 4, the number after the range code corresponds to the IEC frame size and the final digit to the pole count; both match the frame-size and pole-count values carried in the register.

The register lists here 6 versions with 1.5 to 15 kW rated output, all 4-pole, at voltages of 230/400 V and 400/690 V. Full-load efficiency ranges from 85 to 93.1%, and at 75% load from 85.7 to 93.5%. Frame sizes run from 90 to 160, protection ratings from IP54 to IP56. The motors are built in mounting forms B3, B5, B14, B34 and B35, two of them additionally in the vertical forms V1, V5 and V6.

As the standard-motor programme of a group best known for its gearmotors and frequency inverters, the BX range covers the basic demand for three-phase induction motors for pumps, fans and conveyors, competing with the standard-motor programmes of ABB, Siemens and WEG. The range is manufactured in Italy.

When buying used, what matters is bearing condition and a checked insulation resistance of the winding, visible overheating marks on the terminal box and fan cover, and a legible nameplate with frame size, pole count and protection rating. Anyone wanting to run the motor on a variable-speed drive should note the voltage variant (230/400 V or 400/690 V). Spares and support run through the Bonfiglioli sales network.
