Bischoff Werke Biwe AS 15: small West German single-cylinder diesel tractor from 1951 with 1,180cc displacement, 15 hp and a top speed of 16.5 km/h
The Biwe range from Bischoff Werke belongs to the many small German tractor builders of the early postwar years, who alongside the big manufacturers built simple standard tractors for smaller and medium farms. The AS 15 was built between January 1951 and March 1952 as a single-cylinder diesel tractor in the lower power class of the period.

The AS 15 carries a water-cooled single-cylinder diesel engine with 1,180 cm³ of displacement, producing 15 hp, or 11 kW, at 1,500 rpm, and 66 Nm of torque. At 1,420 kg, 2,500 mm long, with a 1,510 mm wheelbase and 1,560 mm width and 1,550 mm height, the machine reaches a top speed of 16.5 km/h.
A water-cooled single-cylinder engine of this size was typical for small postwar standard tractors: simple in construction, with few wearing parts, and sized enough for work on small to medium fields with light implements. A machine of this power class was not built for heavy draft work or for travelling at speed on the road.
When buying such an early single-cylinder tractor used, the condition of the cooling system matters most, as the water pump and radiator often show leaks on machines of this age. Equally important are the condition of the injection pump, the tightness of the crankcase breather, and corrosion damage to the frame and mudguards, which should be carefully exposed and checked on such an old single-cylinder tractor.
