Belarus is the export brand of the Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ), which has built tractors in the Belarusian capital Minsk since 1946 and, with several million units produced, ranks among the world's largest tractor makers; the brand supplies more than 100 countries, with strongholds in Russia, the successor states of the Soviet Union, Africa and Latin America. The 4000 range forms the top of the plant's programme, and the 4520 model has been built since 2006.

The 4520 carries a water-cooled six-cylinder diesel engine of 12,700 cm³ displacement, producing 330 kW (450 hp) – an output that places the tractor among the largest wheeled tractors of the plant. With an unladen weight of 12,000 kg, a length of 6,700 mm, a width of 2,570 mm and a height of 3,300 mm, the lift capacity of the three-point hydraulics is 10,000 kg, sufficient for wide tillage implements and heavy attachments; the top speed is 38.5 km/h.
At 38.5 km/h the 4520 falls under driving licence category L, which covers design top speeds up to 40 km/h; the PTO follows the standardised speeds of 540 or 1,000 rpm, and the three-point hydraulics follow ISO 730 in the upper category for the stated lift capacity. A displacement of 12.7 litres across six cylinders is among the largest diesel engines fitted in wheeled tractors of this type.
When buying a tractor of this size second-hand, the operating hours, the condition of the injection system and cooling system, wear on the clutch and shuttle transmission, and the tightness of the hydraulics and the actual lift capacity after years with heavy three-point implements matter most.
