Diesel scissor lifts of this class are used in construction, the maintenance of industrial plant and outdoors, where mains power is unavailable and electric lifts reach their limits, for instance on building sites, in quarries or on facade work. Weight rises markedly with working height, more than doubling from the 26ft to the 50ft version, which also raises the demands on the ground it stands on.

Buying used, check the scissor mechanism and hydraulic cylinders for leaks, the safety cut-outs and emergency lowering, tyre and brake condition given the considerable weight of the larger models, and the hours and service history of the diesel engine. The work platform and guardrails are worth checking for corrosion too. A demonstration of all functions, including the emergency lowering system, should be part of any pre-purchase inspection.
