AMC – other vehicles: the collective page of Jeep models under American Motors, from the CJ-5 and CJ-7 through the Cherokee to the Comanche, 2,464 to 6,194 cm³
This page gathers vehicles the register, under American Motors Corporation (AMC), could not assign to a named range: the Jeep off-roaders CJ-5, CJ-7 and CJ-8 Scrambler, the Cherokee, and the pick-up derived from it, the Jeep Comanche. AMC was formed in 1954 from the merger of Nash-Kelvinator and Hudson, and in 1970 took over the Kaiser Jeep Corporation along with the Jeep brand; in 1987 AMC was acquired by Chrysler, which continued the Jeep brand. The 4.0-litre straight-six used in the Cherokee and Comanche is still regarded as especially durable and continued in production for many years after the Chrysler takeover.

The register lists here 8 versions from four- to eight-cylinder engines of 2,464 to 6,194 cm³, unladen weights from 1,415 to 2,395 kg, gross weights from 1,700 to 3,495 kg and widths from 1,660 to 2,160 mm.
With the CJ series, Cherokee and Comanche, AMC covered both the classic open off-roader and the compact SUV and its derived pick-up under the Jeep brand, laying the groundwork for Jeep's direction as an off-road brand under Chrysler. The open character of the CJ series and the practical Cherokee body appealed to different customer groups, from farm and forestry use to the road-oriented family SUV.
Buying used, the CJ models need checking for rust on the frame and floor pan and the condition of soft-top and door seals, the Cherokee and Comanche for rust on wheel arches and sills and the condition of the axles and transfer case; parts for these Jeep models are generally well available through the broad aftermarket and vintage parts network.
