At a gross weight of 20,000 kg, the trailer has an unladen weight of 8,900 kg, giving a payload of 11,100 kg. Body length is 12,400 mm at a width of 2,600 mm.

Class O4 requires an air brake system; the overrun brake of classes O1 and O2 is not sufficient above 10 tonnes. At 2,600 mm, the width exceeds the general EU road width limit of 2,550 mm; this is only permitted for bodies with thermally insulated walls at least 45 mm thick, a feature of refrigerated or insulated bodies. Towing requires a category CE licence, and the towing vehicle's permitted trailer weight must match the 20-tonne gross weight.

When buying such a trailer used, besides the chassis, axles and brake system, particular attention should go to the insulation and interior walls if it is a refrigerated or insulated body: moisture, dents and leaking doors considerably reduce insulation performance. The air brake system with its lines and coupling heads, along with the axles and wheel bearings, should be tested on a bench. Axles and brake components from major suppliers such as BPW or SAF make spare parts easier to source independently of the vehicle maker, which matters for a trailer from a small manufacturer like Akm.
