With gross weights of 35 to 39 tonnes, the semi-trailers fall into vehicle class O4 and are built as articulated semi-trailers for cross-border transport. Cryogenic tanks carry liquefied oxygen, nitrogen or carbon dioxide at temperatures well below minus 100 degrees Celsius between air-separation plants and industrial customers. Such transports usually run direct between a small number of production sites and customers from industry, medical technology and food production.

Buying used, the insulation of the double-walled tank, the tightness of valves and safety fittings and a valid pressure-vessel inspection matter on cryogenic tanks; on the axle assembly, brakes, suspension and tyre tread need checking, and corrosion on the chassis and lines reduces resale value. It is also worth checking the service history of the vacuum insulation, since a loss of the insulating vacuum markedly reduces the tank's cooling performance.
