Electric conversions based on established van ranges are aimed mainly at commercial fleet operators wanting to switch to battery-electric drive without giving up the familiar body and payload of the base vehicle; ABT relies on the type approval and parts base of the series-production VW model and adds its own battery and drive technology on top. This approach lets fleet operators keep familiar service routines for the body and suspension while changing only the drivetrain.
When buying a used conversion of this kind, the condition of the battery and charging electronics, documentation of the conversion, and – as with the base vehicle – body condition, brakes and suspension matter most; parts for the vehicle base are available through the VW service network, drivetrain parts through ABT itself.
