The 1er-CRYSTAL (UR 2) series from Zetor includes the 14145. Production: 1987–1990. The engine delivers 140 hp (103 kW), has 6 cylinders, with a displacement of 6,842 cm³. Torque is 508 Nm. Rated speed is 2,200 rpm. The machine is 4,665 mm long, 2,190 mm wide and 2,695 mm high. The unladen weight is 5,100 kg. The wheelbase measures 2,700 mm. Ground clearance is 320 mm. Top speed is 30 km/h. The tank holds 195 litres. Transmission: 16 V/8 R. The engine is water-cooled. Tyres: front 14.9-28 AS, rear 18.4-38 AS. The fuel is diesel. The bore measures 110 mm. The stroke is 110 mm. Maximum torque is reached at 1,580 rpm. Construction: semi-frame construction. The gearbox offers 16 forward gears. There are also 8 reverse gears. The linkage is category III. The PTO runs at 540/1000 rpm. The 1 er-CRYSTAL (UR 2) series covers 6 models. Rated output within it ranges from 82 to 160 hp; the 14145 sits in the upper part of that range with 140 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the 12111/12145 below it with 115 hp and the 16145 above it with 160 hp. Unladen weight within it ranges from 4,140 to 5,100 kg; here the 14145 sits at the top of that range with 5,100 kg. 371 Zetor models across 27 series are on record.

The Zetor Crystal — what defines this series

The Zetor 8111 delivers 82 hp (60.3 kW) from 4.6 litres across four cylinders. Its peak torque of 257 Nm arrives at just 1,200 rpm — very low, and that is what makes the machine forgiving in the field: it pulls through instead of having to be revved. Rated power comes at 2,200 rpm.

The numbering is not arbitrary. Across the Crystal range the second-to-last digit marks the drivetrain: an 8111 is rear-wheel drive, an 8145 the same tractor with four-wheel drive. Anyone searching for one usually means both — technically only the front axle separates them. The same scheme runs through the whole series, from the 9111/9145 to the 12111/12145.

The Crystal range was not built in Brno but at the Slovak plant in Martin, where the heavier Zetor models ran from 1981. In 1984 the series was reworked into what became the 1st series: a new bonnet with a bevelled front, a revised cab with five work lamps, a larger clutch (350 mm on the four-cylinder models, 380 mm on the six-cylinder ones) and a reworked injection pump that lightened the clutch pedal. Four-wheel drive works through a hydraulically actuated multi-plate clutch.

In 1987 the 2nd series followed with a synchronised gearbox. Anyone buying a Crystal today should therefore check the year: the unsynchronised 1st series asks for more feel when shifting. As standard the 8111 has sixteen forward and eight reverse gears; creeper gears were available at extra cost.

Durability remains an open question. Even in its day the 8145 was considered less robust than the older 8011 models it grew out of — a verdict that persists in owner forums to this day. Hard figures do not exist, but parts supply does: several suppliers still serve the Crystal range with new components.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
