The model designations run from YEG140 through the intermediate steps YEG150, YEG170, YEG200, YEG230, YEG300, YEG400 and YEG450 to the largest versions YEG500, YEG650 and YEG750, each with variants of the suffixes DSHS, DTHS, DSLC, DTLC, DSHC and other combinations. Apparent power ranges from 8.8 to 74.0 kVA (prime power 8.0 to 67.2 kW) at mains voltages of 220 to 415 V, single- or three-phase, and mains frequencies of 50 or 60 Hz; the engines are water-cooled with 3 or 4 cylinders, and set dry weight lies between 305 and 1,230 kg.

Engines of this range drive diesel generator sets used for construction-site power, standby installations and decentralised energy supply; the wide YEG model range lets Yanmar cover both smaller and large sets, competing with other Japanese and European engine makers in the genset market.
