The TF series is one of the oldest and most widespread ranges of single-cylinder diesel engines from the Japanese maker Yanmar, founded in 1912 in Osaka, which established the industrial small-diesel technology in 1933 with the first practical small diesel engine. Output ranges from 4.8 to 11.8 kW (6.5 to 16 hp) at displacements of 382 to 857 cm³, all water-cooled naturally aspirated single-cylinder engines with rated speeds between 2,200 and 2,400 rpm; dry weight lies between 67 and 140 kg.
The TF engines are among the best-known single-cylinder diesel engines in the world and have for decades driven irrigation pumps, walking tractors and generator sets, above all in Asia and Africa; their simple, sturdy design made them a standard drive of small-scale farm mechanisation.
On these engines, operating hours, the condition of the injection pump and nozzle, the cooling system, the condition of piston and cylinder bore, and the tightness of the crankcase count; because of the series' wide spread, spares are also available through independent suppliers and as pattern parts, original parts through the Yanmar network.
