Yanmar TNV Common Rail – the Tier 4 generation of the compact engine: 3TNV86CT to 4TNV98CT, C for common rail, H for the high-output version, T for turbo, 27 to 88 kW with particulate filter
The TNV Common Rail range is Yanmar's answer to the EPA Tier 4 final and EU Stage IV/V emission levels for engines above 19 kW: the proven TNV blocks, now with common-rail injection, cooled EGR and diesel particulate filter, from 2013 in the mini excavators, skid steers, telehandlers and compact tractors of the 27 to 88 kW class. The type logic continues the TNV system: the first digit gives the cylinder count, the number the bore in millimetres – 86, 88, 94 and 98 – and the appended letters the version: C for common rail, T for turbocharger, H for the high-output version with higher injection quantity, F for a series variant. A 4TNV98CT is therefore a four-cylinder with 98 mm bore, common rail and turbo; the 3TN86CHT and 4TN86CHT without V are the versions with a different block designation.

The particulate filter is the price of the class above 19 kW: the common-rail TNVs regenerate it automatically during work, which Yanmar has solved through the engine control so that rental firms and operators usually do not notice the process – unlike engines that force a stationary regeneration.
