White Farm Equipment 100 range – five large tractors, White 100 to 185, Oliver's successor: 68.6 to 138.3 kW, six-cylinder diesels, 5,443 to 6,120 kg unladen weight

White Farm Equipment was formed when White Motor Corporation bought up several American tractor makers in the 1960s and 1970s, including Oliver, Minneapolis-Moline and Cockshutt, consolidating their production at the Charles City, Iowa, plant under the White brand, headquartered in Oak Brook near Chicago. The 100 range, with the types 100, 120, 140, 160 and 185, continued the tradition of the large Oliver tractors, the number in the designation giving an approximate power class.

The register lists here 5 versions with 68.6 to 138.3 kW from six-cylinder engines of 5,891 to 8,283 cm³ and torque from 354 to 571 Nm at a rated speed of 2,200 to 2,400 rpm. Unladen weights range from 5,443 to 6,120 kg, length from 4,400 to 4,572 mm, width is uniformly 2,438 mm and height ranges from 2,978 to 3,048 mm.

With the 100 range White positioned itself in the North American large-tractor market of the 1970s and 1980s against International Harvester, John Deere and Case, drawing on the technical basis of the acquired Oliver designs. After several changes of ownership, White Farm Equipment was eventually absorbed into the AGCO brand.

Buying used White 100-series tractors calls for checking the six-cylinder engines, particularly the cooling system and turbocharger on the stronger types, plus wear on the transmission and rear axle after decades of arable use. As White Farm Equipment no longer exists, parts supply is organised through specialist dealers for Oliver and White tractors.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
