Volvo BM traces back to Bolinder-Munktell in Eskilstuna, whose tractor production Volvo took over in the early 1950s; until 1985 the tractors carried the Volvo BM name, after which Valmet continued production. Designations with the BM prefix and a three-digit number (BM 810, BM 840, BM 860) denote the classic two-cylinder diesels, while models with the Valmet suffix (BM Valmet 605, 705, 805, 905) come from the joint production with the Finnish partner; the KRABAT range and the T models such as T600 and T700 also belong to this transitional period.
