The FMX is Volvo's construction and off-road variant of the FM, in the range since 2010 and built at the Tuve plant near Gothenburg. It takes over the cab and basic structure of the FM but gets a reinforced frame, greater ground clearance and portal axles for use in quarries, mining and on construction sites. The type designation gives the power in hp after FMX – FMX 460 is thus about 460 hp – the abbreviation EEV stands for the voluntary Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicle emission standard, Tridem for the triple rear axle on tippers, and the axle formula (6x4, 6x6, 8x4, 8x6, 10x4) for the number of driven wheels and total axles. The FMX is powered by Volvo's own in-line six-cylinder D11, D13 and D16 engines.
