Volkswagen PICK-UP – the Golf-based mini-truck: four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines of 1,300 to 2,792 cm³, 50 to 96 kW, Syncro four-wheel-drive version
The Volkswagen Pick-Up, the later Caddy range, is a mini-truck with an open load bed built on the Golf/Jetta platform, which Volkswagen built from 1982 to 1992; the model designations in the register show, alongside petrol and diesel engines, also the Syncro four-wheel-drive version and the double cab (D.C., Dubbel Cab). The Pick-Up was built in parallel at several plants and, with a passenger-car chassis and drivetrain, targeted trades and small businesses that needed more payload than a passenger-car estate but not a full-size van.

The register lists here 22 versions with 50 to 96 kW from four- to six-cylinders of 1,300 to 2,792 cm³ displacement, unladen weights from 980 to 1,960 kg, gross weights from 2,070 to 3,000 kg, lengths from 4,570 to 5,650 mm and widths from 1,720 to 2,320 mm.
In its niche of compact pickups on a passenger-car base, the VW Pick-Up competed with similar models from other European makers; the Syncro four-wheel-drive version found additional buyers in agriculture and forestry as well as in mountain rescue and municipalities.
On a used VW Pick-Up, rust on the load bed, wings and sills, and the condition of the clutch and gearbox count; on the Syncro versions, the transfer case and freewheel hubs; and on the TD engines, the injection pump; spare parts are well available through the broad parts range for the Golf and Jetta of the relevant model years.
